But as we aged and replaced our bikes with cars there was no looking back. In fact, my poor bike has been sitting unused for 15 years. Some years passed while my bike was at my sister’s house and she would ride it every once in a while, but for the past three years it has been accumulating spider webs in my shed.
This past weekend stretched before me with no plans and amazing weather and it dawned on me to pull the poor old girl out of the shed and see what she still had.
A flat tire was quickly fixed. A low seat was easily raised. While the frame was obviously too small for my body which has grown over the past 17 years since I got the bike I could still ride it, although a tad uncomfortably. Of course, my toes shouldn’t rub the front tire when I make a sharp turn.
I threw the bike in the back of the car and drove out to the closest rail trail with significant length. The Harlem Valley is a beautiful place in rural New York. The trail is lined with old fields mixed with farm houses and wooded acres.
Within the first mile I realized something else had happened to my bike while it was in storage. Either my ass had become more bony (highly doubtful) or the gel seat had deteriorated. This bike had become a literal pain in the ass!
Another few miles down the trail I started to consider standing up on the peddles, ignoring the seat all together, but that was too much stress on my knee. So I continued shifting my weight and wiggling around constantly trying to find a better position.
Seven miles later I made it back to my car and didn’t care who was watching me rub my aching butt.
Some time in the middle of the night I woke up and had to pee. I couldn’t even sit on the toilet my ass hurt so bad.
Maybe I should have saved this for a TMI Thursday post.
But I’m now thinking about replacing my tiny teenage bike for this cutie:

Sweet! I say go for it, as long as you can also get some padded riding shorts. ;)
Definitely get the sweet cruiser. They are so much fun and guarantee you a future in a bicycle gang.
that bike is pretty much the cutest thing ever
Do it! I love riding my bike, although not in the neighborhood because I have no desire to push my bike up the hill like in my childhood days. Instead I load it on to the bike rack and go riding by the river.
Oh my...every now and then I'll use the bike and the gym and it feels like I've taken it up the...hoooooold on a second. You know where I'm going with that.
That bike is a beauty!! ;)
Ouch! Nobody likes to get rogered by their bike seat...hahaha!
